Let's hear an arrr, arrr, matey for a new beer release called Desert Island by Heavy Seas Beer. The Desert Island beer launches what is known as a "draft-only" program featuring “one off” releases of beers, designed by individual members of the Heavy Seas brewing team. Each beer in the series will be limited to only 100 barrels available at select locations within Heavy Seas’ 18 state distribution footprint. The first beer will be available in February 2015.
According to brewmaster, Chris Leonard: "Rich caramel maltiness adorns the first offering in our Desert Island Series - a strong Scottish Ale at 8% ABV. This interpretation of the classic Scottish style is warming and malty while maintaining an earthy hop balance. Dark amber in color, rich fig aromas and toasted caramel flavors dominate this hefty tipple. If you can't get yourself to a desert island, this brew is the perfect answer to the winter chill.”
Leonard also adds that this beer was conceived and executed by Heavy Seas Brewing Team Leader, Chris Schultz. “The beer is comforting, cozy, reassuring and mellow - just like Mr. Schultz! The goal was to produce a malty yet balanced beer that would prove the ‘naye’ sayers wrong about this style's purported limited appeal."
The other beers produced in the series will be a Schwartzbier in April, an American Honey Amber Ale in June, a “New World” Saison in August, a Smoked Dunkel in October, and a Dopple Sticke Alt in December.
